Zahra .. displacement suffering fades away by virtue of the FFA project

“Sometimes we had to eat only one meal a day,” Zahra, an IDP from Al-Hudaydah governorate to Hadramout due to the war.
Zahra and her family survived after the escalation of fighting in Al Hudaydah Governorate in 2018, leaving behind everything she owned.
"We spent a year without housing, moving from one farm to another. There is nothing to provide food with, beside rent housing," added Zahra, speaking very sadly.
Circumstances forced Zahra to bear the burdens of her family. Her husband, who suffers from kidney diseases, is no longer able to work. "If he works one day, he sits for a week," Zahra says.
The conflict in Yemen lasting for six year has caused the internal displacement for more than 4 million people, according to United Nations estimates, while the year 2020 has only witnessed the displacement of 166,000 people. Most of the IDPs lack the basic necessities of life. In light of the scarcity of job opportunities, the suffering of the IDPs doubles.
Zahra, who recently settled in the Tarim district, continues her speech saying, "When I heard about the FFA project, I came immediately looking for a job opportunity."
Zahra received monthly cash assistance for months, in exchange for her participation in rehabilitating community assets, such as cleaning torrent streams.
"Praise be to Allah," says Zahra. "Now we are in a better condition, because of this project, I have provided for the needs of the family. We rented a modest house. Now I can provide food and clothes for my children."
Zahra hopes that the project will continue, so she will remain in the safe side. "If this project lasts longer, I can have a gas cylinder and complete the requirements of the house," Zahra adds.
Zahra, like all the IDPs, hopes that the war will stop, so that she will return home, and that her family and relatives who are dispersed between Ibb, Aden and Hadramout will be reunited.
Thanks to the WFP-funded and BCHR-implemented project, 5,000 individuals in Hadramout Governorate received cash assistance for 6 months, to improve their food security and rehabilitate community assets of collective benefit.
