“May God make you happy as you made us happy.” These were the last words the forty-year old Ruqayya Muhammad Ahmed uttered when she left carrying her share of zakat al-Fitr at distribution point west of the city of Mukalla in Hadramout Governorate.
The conditions that Yemen is going through forced Roqayya to move from Al-Bayda Governorate to the city of Mukalla in Hadramout Governorate, to start a new story of struggle to provide for the needs of her family, which consists of 8 girls and 4 boys.
Ruqayya, who was speaking to us in a hoarsen voice, says that the living situation has become unbearable in light of her husband's colon disease. “He works one day and stops for days, and sometimes the children have to work to make a living,” adds Ruqayya.
Ruqayya received a food ration of rice, as part of Zakat Al-Fitr distribution project in Yemen for 1442, funded by K.S.Relief and implemented by the BCHR.
In addition to Roqaya, 42,000 families from the most needy families received zakat al-Fitr "amounts of rice" as part of the center's projects to improve food security for the most vulnerable families.
