In a pivotal step aimed at achieving genuine development, the Committee for the Development of Wadi Hajer was officially launched today in the city of Mukalla. The initiative is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coordinated with Wageningen University in the Netherlands, and supervised by the local authority of Hadramout Governorate.
The committee was established by an official order by the Governor of Hadramout, Mr. Mabkhout bin Madi, based on studies conducted by BCHR with Wageningen University. The committee includes representatives from the public sector, the private sector, and the third sector. It aims at strengthening cooperation among local and community actors and developing integrated development plans that ensure the achievement of sustainable development in Wadi Hajar.
This comes in response to the need to organize development efforts in the valley in a participatory and sustainable manner. During the launch, Engineer Amin, Deputy Governor of Hadramout for Technical Affairs, emphasized the importance of forming the committee, which will contribute to identifying needs and organizing development interventions in Wadi Hajer.
Ms. Petra, the representative of Wageningen University, stated that Wadi Hajer represents a promising investment opportunity in agriculture and food production. She affirmed that the committee aims to provide an inspiring economic model in Hadramout.
Engineer Fahmi bin Mansour, CEO at BCHR, stated that establishing the committee is a milestone in the history of the valley and a starting point for an agricultural and developmental renaissance based on thorough studies. Finally, he appreciated the efforts of the local authority in forming the committee.
