Background


BCHR is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aiming to provide health, nutrition, food security and protection services as a humanitarian response to the escalating socio-economic situation in Yemen since 2015.

1. Introduction

BCHR is seeking qualified Shelter Field Technicians to support its ongoing humanitarian response in Marib, Yemen. The Shelter Technicians will be responsible for providing technical support in the distribution, installation, and repair of shelter materials to displaced populations.

2. Overall Objective
The primary objective of this position is to contribute to the effective implementation of the shelter program in Marib by providing technical expertise and ensuring the quality and efficiency of shelter interventions.

3. Key Responsibilities
• Distribution and Installation:
o Oversee the distribution of shelter materials (e.g., tents, NFI kits) to beneficiaries, ensuring equitable allocation and proper documentation.
o Provide technical guidance to beneficiaries on the correct assembly and installation of shelter kits.
o Monitor the quality of construction and adherence to technical standards.
o Identify and address any issues or challenges related to distribution and installation.
• Technical Support:
o Conduct assessments of beneficiary needs and identify appropriate shelter solutions.
o Provide technical advice and support to beneficiaries on shelter-related issues, such as repair and maintenance.
o Train community members on basic shelter construction and maintenance skills.
o Assist in the development of shelter repair and rehabilitation plans.
• Monitoring and Evaluation:
o Regularly monitor the progress of shelter activities and report on key indicators.
o Collect data on beneficiary satisfaction and the impact of shelter interventions.
o Document lessons learned and best practices.
o Identify and report any protection concerns or issues related to the shelter program.
• Coordination and Reporting:
o Maintain regular communication with project staff, partners, and beneficiaries.
o Prepare timely and accurate reports on project activities, achievements, and challenges.
o Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to the development of project plans and strategies.
o All other tasks and duties related to work as needed & instructed by line manager.

4. Qualifications and Experience:
• Diploma or equivalent qualification in construction, engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in shelter construction, repair, or rehabilitation, preferably in emergency contexts.
• Strong technical skills and knowledge of shelter materials and construction techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Good command in English and fluent in Arabic.
• Willingness to work in challenging and insecure environments.
