Job Summary:
The Nutrition Assistant will support the implementation of nutrition-related activities within the project.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meal and Menu Planning: Collaborate with dieticians to develop and implement meal plans and menus for the facility, ensuring nutritional adequacy and variety.
• Nutritional Assessment: Gather and analyze dietary information to evaluate the nutritional habits of children, identifying individual risk factors and dietary restrictions that may influence meal planning.
• Coordination with Professionals: Work closely with nutritionists and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and effective meal planning that meets the needs of all children.
• Ongoing Nutrition Evaluations: Conduct regular nutrition assessments, including monitoring caloric intake and physical activity levels, to support the health and well-being of children.
• Intervention Facilitation: Provide immediate interventions in cases of malnutrition, allergic reactions, or refusal to eat, ensuring prompt and appropriate action is taken.
• Meal Distribution Support: Assist in the distribution of meals, ensuring that they are delivered accurately and served in a timely manner.
• Hygiene Protocols: Uphold strict sterilization protocols during the cleaning and maintenance of plates and utensils, ensuring a safe and sanitary dining environment.
• Waste Management: Safely dispose of leftover food portions to minimize the risk of disease transmission and promote food safety.
• Nutrition Education: Educate children on nutrition plans and healthy eating habits, fostering a culture of wellness and informed dietary choices.
• Sanitation Oversight: Supervise and maintain cleanliness in work and serving areas, ensuring that all items are cleaned and sterilized before use.
• Staff Management: Plan, prioritize, and assign tasks to food service staff involved in the school feeding project, ensuring efficient operation and high-quality service.
• Inventory Oversight: Assist in inventory management and maintain routine records, verifying food service deliveries and supplies according to the established work plan.
• Meeting Participation: Attend meetings related to food service operations, providing valuable insights and recommendations for improvement.
• Kitchen Staff Supervision: Oversee the activities of kitchen staff, including task assignment, performance monitoring, and the provision of training and guidance.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all food preparation and service activities comply with Education Department regulations, food safety standards, and SHS policies.
• Quality Monitoring: Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation to uphold high standards within the meal service.
• Performance Tracking: Track and report on meal participation, food costs, and other key performance indicators to support program evaluation and improvement.
• Additional Duties: Carry out other related responsibilities as required to fulfill the objectives of the position effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Nutrition or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a similar role is preferred, particularly within a school meals project.
• Dietary Knowledge: Extensive experience in obtaining dietary information and assessing nutritional requirements.
• Meal Planning Expertise: Proficient in meal and menu planning, with a solid understanding of nutrition principles.
• Educational Skills: Experience in educating children and their families about nutrition and dietary needs.
• Collaboration Skills: Ability to work collaboratively on nutrition plans and facilitate necessary interventions.
• Adherence to Standards: Strong competency in following prescribed meal provision standards and protocols.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on teamwork and leadership.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficient in the use of computers and technology for communication and reporting.
• Knowledge of Food Safety: Understanding of food preparation techniques and food safety regulations.
