Background

BCHR is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aiming to provide health, nutrition, food security and protection services as a humanitarian response to the escalating socio-economic situation in Yemen since 2015.

The primary aim of this project is to provide 915 displaced households in Marib governorate with a semi-durable, locally appropriate emergency shelter (Iron Net) and priority household items. The project will also include emergency prepositioning of a less comprehensive shelter package (tarpaulins and rope) to enable rapid response to 500 households impacted by new disasters and displacement (e.g. flooding, conflict) that arise during the project timeline. The intervention will primarily be implemented in displacement sites across two districts in Marib

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

• Review the BoQ and the related drawings of the iron nets shelter prior to the implementation of the project.
• Participation in the technical tenders committee for the selection of the suitable supplier for delivery the iron shelter nets
• Routine supervision on the manufacturing of the iron nets at the workshop
• Supervising the installation of the iron nets at the designated sites during the project implementation
• Continuous inspection of the iron nets qualities throughout the project cycle.
• Ensuring the specifications are met during the production of these iron nets by the suppliers throughout the warranty period.
• Liaises with the project manager to plan and implement activities in the field.
• Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities in the field.
• Works with and supervises partners, contractors, suppliers, construction workers etc. on engineering aspects of the activities.
• In consultation with the project manager offers shelter related technical oversight for the shelter program at field level.
• Responds to and records beneficiary and shelter technical/hardware feedback and complaints at field level.
• Prepares and shares with the project manager weekly implementation plans and reports.
• supervise and coordinate with the supplier in developing training material for community-based project construction and maintenance.
• Conduct sessions with the project technical supplier to discuss construction needs, community participation and to ensure quality construction work.

Requirements and Qualifications:

1. University degree in Civil Engineering
2. One to two years of experience in a similar field in the humanitarian section .
3. Good in written and spoken English and Arabic.
4. Good knowledge of the General Context of Marib and in particular shelter issues.
6. Good analytical and planning skills with ability to interpret the situation.
7. Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
8. Good computer skills.
9. Team work skills.
10. Resilience and the ability to work under pressure, organizing prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
11. Problem solving with ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
12. Ability to write reports and collect data.
13. Responsibility, cooperation and take initiatives.
14. Sensitive to gender issues and Gender Equity and Diversity (GED) principles.
15. Good understanding of complex emergencies
16. Flexible and creative.
