This Monday, the Secretary-General of the Local Council in Al-Mahrah Governorate, Mr. Salem Abdullah Nimer, inaugurated the distribution of fisheries inputs, as part of the emergency support project to protect agriculture, livestock and fish-based livelihoods for the population affected by the conflict and Corona virus funded by K.S.Relief through FAO in coordination with the General Authority of Fisheries.
During the inauguration, the head of the General Authority for Fisheries, Abdel Nasser Awayed Kalshat, said that the importance of the project in preserving the quality of fish and enhancing the income of fishermen, referring to the governorate's need for more interventions in the fishery sector.
The Director General of the Office of Social Affairs and Labor, Fayez Ali Belhaf, appreciated the efforts of both K.S.Relief and FAO in supporting the fisheries sector and reducing the suffering of fishermen affected by conflict and natural disasters.
In turn, the FAO fishery sector official in Yemen, Abdul Salam Al-Kuri, convey his appreciation to K.S.Relief for funding the project, explaining that the distribution of iceboxes will reduce fish loss and raise its quality, thus enhancing the income of fishermen.
The project manager, Rabie Badaam, explained that the project includes the distribution of fishery inputs (Iceboxe and life jacket) and targets 3,000 fishermen in the districts of Al-Ghaydah and Hasween, with the aim of reducing fishing losses, supplying local markets with a high-quality product and preserving the lives of fishermen.
The inauguration was attended by the relief coordinator at K.S.Relief, Mr. Salem Ahmed Al-Saqqaf, the coordinator of health projects at K.S.Relief, Dr. Murad bin Aqeel, the emergency projects officer, Mr. Muhammad Al-Shaqaa, the M&E officer, Mr. Omar Bahfs, and the Head of Office at BCHR in Al-Mahra, Mr. Ayman Muhammad Mazyoun.
